In the early nineteenth century, Miss Sarah Tucker taught needlepoint at her Bellefonte subscription school to a generation of Centre County girls. Some two hundred years later, the diligent work of those school girls was on display at our 2017 exhibition “Unraveling the Threads of History.” We are grateful for our members, colleagues, businesses and volunteers who helped us to tell the story of those who came before us.
With your support, the Historical Society was able to tell many other stories. We hosted 26 history lectures and programs in 2017–both our own and collaborations with area organizations–that reflect the history of all of Centre County and advocate for the county’s historic sites and landscapes. We capped this amazing year with the recent Stocking Stuffer Antiques, Art and Fine Craft sale and holiday showcase. It was the most successful yet with nearly 900 guests, many of whom tell us they wouldn’t miss it!
In addition, our unique historic sites welcomed more than 5000 visitors, including about 1200 elementary age students. All this was made possible by your membership which is the foundation of our organization.
With sincere appreciation for your past interest and involvement, we hope that you will consider renewing your membership or joining us as a new member of the Historical Society during this 2018 annual membership campaign. Memberships and other generous contributions allow the Historical Society to contribute to the community in a unique and significant way. The annual membership period is from January through December.
We invite you to celebrate new and ongoing initiatives and directions with us through your generous support in 2018. Together we can make a difference.
